You may or may not have already heard of a young artist named +Mar Mai, who is well on her way to achieving a mini celebrity status on Google+ with her cartoon artwork ranging from her illustrated novel to sought after characterizations of Google+ users. One of the coolest things about the drawings by +Mar Mai is that when I view them I instantly get a personality and back-story idea for the characters. How far I am off from what she intended is, of course, unknown, but the fact there is so much more elicited than a visual every time amazes me. I would think that it was solely something I personally am resonating with in the style, but there are so many others from different backgrounds that have positively reviewed her debut novel or who repeatedly post their compliments for each new image she publishes. She captures elements of personality gleaned from user's profiles and posts and her interactions with them to create uncannily accurate depictions according to the subjects and their friends. As to the fictional characters she draws, the whimsical personalities that jump from the page are apparent before even reading the first word of the story. With these things in mind, I really think she is achieving a level of artistry in her work beyond just drawing.
Not to take away anything from the art, but I would be remiss not to mention how the clean-up and coloring play a big part in the final production; like separate instruments in an orchestra that build on each other. Now, I do think the art can solo, but props to +Mary C. for taking it to another level, an artistry in and of itself no doubt, and a talent that should not go without mention in any review. Personally, I would enjoy seeing some untouched pieces sometime if +Mar Mai ever allows them into the wild. Seeing the stages at which they develop from initial pen on paper to the start and finish of coloring would also be awesome to see from both +Mar Mai and +Mary C.
It is truly a joy to be a part of the same online circles with +Mar Mai and +Mary C. and to see the evolution of +Mar Mai's art and story telling in the public arena. I hope this is just the very beginning because I am so looking forward to saying that "I knew her when…"

In the future, I only want to be "sick" with quotes. When you are "sick" with quotes, you stay home and get to catch up on things you want to do or play around on the internet or watch The Price is Right or even go to Walmart and buy stuff to make brownies. When you are sick without quotes, you just get to lay around all day and not even get online or want brownies. That is just wrong.

To me… G+ is a giant cash grab booth. There are way more peeps and conversations than I can keep track of, though I desire to capture them all. Invariably I know I end up missing something as it flies by or I run out of time and have to walk away from riches as valuable as the ones I was able to catch. Standing in the middle of a hurricane of personalities and words, some I have been lucky enough to grab and keep them close. Others I see and recognize flying by me many times before I latch on. While I am looking one direction, I know that so much more is going on in all the spaces where I am not focusing. Like currency, I can pass along every person or conversation to others and let them share in the richness of the experiences that I found. Unlike the fleeting nature of money, what you walk away from G+ with you really can keep forever. Like the nature of money in that it is what you make of it, so is G+. I can invest what I capture and let a new conversation plant the seed of a new idea, or I can build an acquaintance with similar likes into a treasured friend. Not every dollar you spend goes to a precious commodity. Just like in real life where we spend a buck on a candy bar or a few more on a movie, there are posts and people we enjoy and then move on, and that's okay. We also get the occasional rotten apple, but in the case of G+, "money" really does grow on trees, or in my analogy flies around inside a booth. When you want more just step back in and see what comes your way.
I chose this particular video because of the variety of people from all walks they show in the booth. They all also have different strategies for how they grab the money, which I thought was kind of like how we all have different ways which we interact here on the plus.

It is known far and wide that +Kimberly Chapman's secret world exists somewhere near +Halfdan Reschat's secret world (http://goo.gl/03TqR) so they can walk over for visits and cookies and hair braiding (well, not Halfdan). On the way to Kimberly's house, Halfdan met up with a +Dirk Reul ek who in honor of the Birthday celebrations did not exterminate him. In a not creepy at all stalker fashion they peered through the window to see Kimberly in her finest Barbie dress entertaining an out of town visitor. Oh noes! Halfdan was all ready for some very special +Kyla Myers cake and ice cream! He had even worn his special hat (well, he wore it to smuggle some cake back to his best friend +Fluffy McSharkah Khan, who would now be quite cross at the lack of birthday confection). Now, instead of a +Mar Mai glomp, he was more likely to get a severed arm chomp! Maybe +Mellie B, #secretdropbearqueen would afford him protection? Perhaps Viking +Mary C. would help? Oh, what to do, what to do?!

+Kristi Fahlsing found a Twinkie recipe that we made over the holidays. They turned out pretty darn good! We even made a couple quickie boxes to put them in to take to our Thanksgiving dinners.
Things to fiddle with: A lighter cake recipe; we used a box. I'd like to see more spongy quality to the cake. We were making pies at the same time, so I did not take the time to look for a separate cake recipe. I need to experiment a little more with hollowing out the cavities for the cream filling; I think they need to be bigger than what we did. More cream filling!

Once I get on deviantART it's hard to tear myself away. The amount of incredibly talented artists there is mind blowing. MIND. BLOWING.
