I'm not a promoter (self or otherwise) or an evangelist. I post things I believe in and that I'm passionate about. Sometimes serious, and oftentimes silly. The people I interact with here have come to define in the real world to me what was once just a word, "tribe". I'd buy most of you a cup of coffee. Show up in my city and I'll prove it.
+Amanda Rachelle Warren and a member of her tribe, +Sarah Rodlund have what I would call a sociology/Americana/writing project. After interacting with Amanda over the past few months, I imagine a little Thelma and Louise thrown in (without the cliff hopefully). Their Kickstarter is at http://goo.gl/ArX4c
They have a modest goal and they just need a little more to reach it. I'm personally interested in seeing what comes out of their trip/project (plus I have a copy of the book on reserve). I love words. I love writers. I love having fun with G+ and supporting my peeps. Can you help too?
Some text from their Kickstarter project (edited for length) is pasted below for your consideration:
Background
It's 2012, an election year, and I find myself asking over and over again: "What Are Americans Like Today?" What are they really like? What does it mean to be an American? I'd like to go see for myself.
Our Project
This May, I'll be traveling to South Carolina to meet up with my friend and creative partner, award winning poet, Amanda Warren. We'll be packing up her 1999 Jeep Cherokee and hitting the road for a trip across the American South, through Texas, the Southwest, then back to the American West, California.
I'll be documenting our journey through audio, video and photos, as well as keeping a daily online travelogue. When I'm home again, I'll bring the material together into a short independently published book.
Our Funding Goal
Our goal is to meet $2,000 or above for travel, unforeseen expenses and work going into the book.
Other Thoughts
We are looking to experience a "real America," which might be something like looking for the Loch Ness monster or a Yeti. It's a slippery and elusive thing.
This project is as much about process as product. I hope to be able to answer the question, "What Are Americans Like Today?" But who knows what other questions will rise up or what other answers will reveal themselves?
Thanks!
Thanks, in advance, for your contributions. It took me a long time to realize how much writers and artists need one another, and how much the rest of the world needs us. I hope you enjoy this project!
