Favorite Line of the day!

When I hear or read a statement that just absolutely takes the prize for the day, then it goes in the stream! Oh yeah, and none of that confusing context to get in the way. πŸ˜‰

Line of the day is from +Claudio Ibarra and goes a little something like this:

That's why you should stop getting flavored toilet paper!

Princess Leia Slave Girl Costume

You know, when I support these punishments, I fully expect +Keith Cramer to lose. That's called Karma! Also, I'm going to have to tape this thing on. That's like an extra punishment bonus on this body. πŸ˜‰

A Little Bit of Lovin' by Elastic Band

It starts like a 70's crime drama, then goes all Mediterranean, punctuated with flashbacks to the 70's police chase again, mixed with a mellow bar scene and… was that an electric kazoo? Yet… I want to play it again… and again…

Toilet Paper Rant

Perhaps it's the way I grew up. It could just be my overly practical nature. In any case, there is a right and a wrong way to many things. Actually, there's usually a right way and a bunch of wrong ways. Luckily for me, with toilet paper roll installation, there's one right way (forward facing) and one wrong way (backward facing). Worth noting, there is also a toilet paper to the left scenario, a toilet paper to the right scenario, and a toilet paper straight-on scenario to be considered logistically speaking. In public restrooms you almost always are dealing with a sideways reach to the roll; however due to the industrial design of commercial dispensers, they negate a forward or backward installed roll and it's generally difficult to get the toilet paper dispensed no matter which way it's installed. For this reason, I stand behind the home court advantage whenever possible — but that's a topic for another time.

For descriptive ease, I'm going to center on a straight-on roll dispenser in a home environment. When you finish playing Angry Birds you lay down your smartphone and reach forward to the dispenser. In a fluid motion, your hand extends outward, fingers pointing toward the roll, with your thumb in an opposing grip position as your arm bridges the gap between you and your exit papers. From a sitting position, the most natural maneuver is to then grasp the fresh end of paper and pull down and toward you, allowing the paper to roll smoothly out to the precise length for the job at hand. Since you already spent too much time launching birds at pigs, this is not a task on which you want to spend much mental energy. The flap of the toilet paper should curl from the back of the roll up and over in a spinning motion toward you. If the flap of toilet paper curls over the roll toward the wall and hangs down on the opposite side — between the roll and the wall — there is no fluid motion, even in gymnastics, that will allow you to just grab that flap and pull. Depending on your bathroom layout, there is a very good chance you will have to lean forward uncomfortably off the commode to get the extra inch or two needed for your finger tips to fumble and finally grasp the free end of the paper. Just going on physics, when you pull incorrectly installed paper toward you, it encounters additional resistance because it is dragging against much more of the toilet paper roll before it can come free. You might be safe with a three-ply paper but with the economy what it is, and the desire not to clog low water consumption toilets, you are proably working with, at best, a two-ply. With the roll on backwards, the awkward physical manuevering to grab ahold of it, combined with the increased pressure on the paper as you pull, will prematurely rip the paper.

So, without even going into the aesthetics of a correctly installed toilet paper roll versus an incorrectly installed toilet paper roll, I can stand solidly on ergonomics and physics to prove my case. With this in mind, if we started using this as a physics lesson early on in schools we could avoid situations like the bathroom in my townhouse. The builder obviously did not grasp the repercussions of placing an air vent under a foward wall-mounted toilet paper dispenser. As a result, whenever the roll is installed correctly, as soon as the heating or air conditioning kicks on, it unrolls the entire roll of paper onto the tile floor. So, weekly, I am distracted from my Angry Birds game as I sit mocked by an incorrectly installed toilet paper roll. One, which adding insult to injury, I had to install that way myself. :-/

Easter Mosaic for +The Worldwide Easter Egg Hunt

Easter Mosaic for +The Worldwide Easter Egg Hunt

Last week, +Hermine Ngnomire asked if I would create a graphic for +Clayton Condon and his +The Worldwide Easter Egg Hunt project. Clayton's final project post can be found here: http://goo.gl/6bHge

With only a 100 people participating on the first year, creating a mosaic presented a bit of a challenge. Cracked it, though! (pun fully and completely intended) Since Clayton has now published it for the Egg Hunters, I wanted to share it with everyone else!

In addition to the profile images of all the participants, there are five Easter eggs hidden throughout the image. All of the hidden eggs are the same size, completely visible, and no color corrections were done on them. What's a mosaic without a little challenge?

If you click on the image, you can download the full size original to see better! Otherwise things may be a bit small.

Enjoy! Look for +The Worldwide Easter Egg Hunt next year! πŸ™‚

Can you spare a cup of coffee today for a member of your tribe?

I'm not a promoter (self or otherwise) or an evangelist. I post things I believe in and that I'm passionate about. Sometimes serious, and oftentimes silly. The people I interact with here have come to define in the real world to me what was once just a word, "tribe". I'd buy most of you a cup of coffee. Show up in my city and I'll prove it.

+Amanda Rachelle Warren and a member of her tribe, +Sarah Rodlund have what I would call a sociology/Americana/writing project. After interacting with Amanda over the past few months, I imagine a little Thelma and Louise thrown in (without the cliff hopefully). Their Kickstarter is at http://goo.gl/ArX4c

They have a modest goal and they just need a little more to reach it. I'm personally interested in seeing what comes out of their trip/project (plus I have a copy of the book on reserve). I love words. I love writers. I love having fun with G+ and supporting my peeps. Can you help too?

Some text from their Kickstarter project (edited for length) is pasted below for your consideration:

Background
It's 2012, an election year, and I find myself asking over and over again: "What Are Americans Like Today?" What are they really like? What does it mean to be an American? I'd like to go see for myself.

Our Project
This May, I'll be traveling to South Carolina to meet up with my friend and creative partner, award winning poet, Amanda Warren. We'll be packing up her 1999 Jeep Cherokee and hitting the road for a trip across the American South, through Texas, the Southwest, then back to the American West, California.

I'll be documenting our journey through audio, video and photos, as well as keeping a daily online travelogue. When I'm home again, I'll bring the material together into a short independently published book.

Our Funding Goal
Our goal is to meet $2,000 or above for travel, unforeseen expenses and work going into the book.

Other Thoughts
We are looking to experience a "real America," which might be something like looking for the Loch Ness monster or a Yeti. It's a slippery and elusive thing.

This project is as much about process as product. I hope to be able to answer the question, "What Are Americans Like Today?" But who knows what other questions will rise up or what other answers will reveal themselves?

Thanks!
Thanks, in advance, for your contributions. It took me a long time to realize how much writers and artists need one another, and how much the rest of the world needs us. I hope you enjoy this project!

Good things come

Thanks +Sean Cowen for the post!

Reshared post from +Sean Cowen

This is one of the hardest ideas to get across to people nowadays. We're collectively such an impatient, gotta have it this second group of people now.

Patience, in my mind, is one of the hardest virtues to teach to anyone. But it's rewards can truly be incredible… if you're willing to wait it out. Some people are, most people aren't. But this message rings true.

Star Wars Costume Contest Hangout

Ah, yes. The hangout where I get to serve my punishment by dressing as Princess Leia in the slave girl outfit. Just remember folks, what is seen can not be unseen. I'm just saying… πŸ˜‰

Please place any comments on the original post.

Reshared post from +Halfdan Reschat

Star Wars Hangout Announcement
(Also known as "Meet +Scott Cramer as Slave Leia")

Since +Scott Cramer lost the Star Wars costume contest to his brother, +Keith Cramer, he'll have to face the punishment of dressing up as Slave Leia in a hangout. The time and place for this hangout have now been established as:

April 14th at 4:00 PM EDT / 1:00 PM PDT / 22:00 CEST

Watching the Hangout
The hangout will probably be hosted by me and get broadcasted so that everyone can follow it live even if they're not in the hangout (hopefully using Hangout On Air). The hangout will also be recorded and uploaded to YouTube at a later point, for everyone to enjoy.

Taking Part in the Hangout
The hangout will be public and everyone who joins it dressed as a Star Wars character will get send a personalized, autographed photo of +Scott Cramer and +Keith Cramer in their costumes (I guess that means C-3PO and R2D2). In addition to the hangout itself I'm also hosting a small IRL Star Wars party at my dorm kitchen which will ensure at least a few not-sober people dressed as Star Wars characters (myself included).

I'm looking forward to some fun time with (hopefully) many people dressed as Star Wars characters. I'm still not sure how I feel about the prospect of seeing +Scott Cramer in a Slave Leia costume.

Star Wars Costume Contest – C3PO VIDEO

+Keith Cramer and I were in a Star Wars costume contest initiated by +Halfdan Reschat. Loser dresses as Princess Leia, in her slave girl costume, in a public hangout (my costume was ordered this week).

Before the judging, +Kristi Fahlsing and I took my C3PO costume out for a test drive. I compiled the cellphone videos below!

EDIT: I totally forgot to mention one of the coolest things that happened during my C3PO exploits. Before I went into the Mexican restaurant (see the video), a couple and their two young daughters were coming out. The mother asked me if she could take a picture of me with their daughter – because they had just finished watching a Star Wars marathon (her first time) the night before! Unfortunately it happened too quick and we did not have the video recording.
