In the not-too-distant future

Internet archaeologists exploring off the grid stumbled upon what appears to be an extinct social media site. In an attempt to determine it's identity, GUI experts were called in to navigate the jumbled architecture and tumbleweeds. After an exhaustive search, the privacy settings were finally found and decoded. One last post remained visible on a crumbling wall, "I have not seen a shared status in months. If anyone out there is reading, please, please, just 'Like' me…" From there the post faded in and out with mentions of farm animals and mafia wars, finally ending with the initials of who is thought to be the social site's last user, "M Z". With thanks to the Library of Congress, photos of the site have been included.

A worthy perspective that conflicts with my current direction in social media – which is to organize the information (over)flow and limit circles to categories of interest. I'll probably read it again later after letting it sink in.

I think this could apply to both sexes

Boy, I wish they'd have offered classes with this information in high school. ๐Ÿ˜‰

AMC lends trust (Breaking Bad, Walking Dead)

Kevin Smith lends cred (c'mon, Kevin Smith! — have you seen my avatar?). Comic books lends pop culture and nostalgia near and dear to me (I'm still lugging around over 5000 books as if they were my personal history). This could be a real life spin-off of Big Bang Theory. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Worth a shot.

Useful info on limiting posts and disabling reshare.

Reshared post from +David Gulbransen

Well, it does appear that if you limit a post to a specific circle, say, not wanting your boss to read a certain post, if you do not limit sharing, anyone in the circle you shared it with could share it with their circles… which could seriously bite you in the ass.

Good rule of thumb: don't post anything you really want to remain private. And don't trust Google, Facebook, or anyone else to really get privacy right.

To limit sharing:

1. Post. (Yeah, you have to do this after you post. What the hell, Google?)
2. In your Stream, click on the little circle with a triangle in the upper right hand side of the post.
3. Choose "Disable reshare".

Why you have to post first to disable reshare is beyond me. Google products seem to always have these flaws. The "engineer culture" could benefit from a cultural exchange with some UI designers.

I posted some pics of alligators at the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo earlier

This guy needs the two-inch-thick glass wall that I had going for me. In Fort Wayne I've been chittered at by squirrels and dive-bombed by a territory overprotective bird. Yeah, that's pretty much it.
