Verizon wins

The Internet loses. – Tell the FCC to reclassify broadband!Judges just approved, if not censorship, then at least the ability for it to happen. Under this ruling, the concept of net neutrality is dead. For what it's worth, I signed the petition to tell the FCC to get it's head out of it's arse. From the link:On Jan. 14, a federal appeals court decided Verizon vs. FCC in favor of Verizon–not because Verizon was really right, but because the FCC chose the wrong legal framework to use back in 2010.This is not a very good reason to destroy the open internet. The good news is, if the FCC immediately reclassifies broadband and puts it under the common carrier legal framework, they could restore their ability to regulate ISPs and protect net neutrality. It's that easy. But like any government agency, the FCC will only act if they hear from you. So sign this and share it with everyone you know.?

Alternately, ask congress to grant the FCC power of telecom AND information services.

    +Chad Wilson Sounds good.

It's one of those things that we won't miss till it's gone, you'll be going about your business online and suddenly a fairly innocuous site isn't available cos it's triggered some x against it somewhere. A few torrent sites there, no biggy. Some porn disappears, well most of that was well sketchy so no great loss to humanity. A few blogs go, well… Actually that's pretty weak. Some proper news sources go, now hang on a second. Then it's too late.

People need to speak up now, before it is too late.

  4. Martin Nutbeem says:

…and yeah, you need to do a bit more than just signing online petitions.

Edit: Not to say that's not good, but follow up with a phone call or physical letter to your elected representative.

[Go to bed Martin, you're grumpy.]

Tonight I'm going to watch as much Netflix as I can. Who knows if it will be there tomorrow.
