It is the first extension I recommend to new users and the main selling point in converting non-believers to Chrome.
Thanks it is all very good advice because on facebook I accidently tried to use my memory of german in communicating, and I offended a german student because of my ignorance. She said don't try to speak german. Then I realized maybe, because of something else that issues having meaning only to a specific individual are incomprehensible to the majority of people. So in a way it put me a check and is very good advice.
+Søren Dalsgaard Brath I have literally been able to turn a G+ acquaintance into a friend in part because of it. If Google wants to make television commercials, THIS is more worthy than the sometimes working picture synch, in my honest opinion. Thanks for the feedback!
+Troy Curless It is an excellent aid in helping solidify knowledge of a foreign language. I know that at least one of the people I communicate with in France uses it to supplement her knowledge of English.

I actually have mine set to translate to English instead of my native Danish, as it seems to work a little better that way, but thankfully I'm fairly fluent in English.
I wonder whether universal translators (when they are finally invented) will actually help national languages survive in the future.

Yes, that one too. I wonder how it will work. will it translate everything to your language while you hear it, or will it enable you to understand any language as if you spoke it yourself? I wouldn't want the first option, as I hate dubbed movies. It annoys the hell out of me, when lip movements don't match the sound. I would much rather read subtitles if it came to that.
I've found the translate to be somewhat problematic. If you keep it simple and avoid idioms, it seems to work best. Also, it's good to double check individual words by themselves.
