+Keith Cramer and I are in a Star Wars costume contest initiated by +Halfdan Reschat. By April 1st, we have to have our costumes ready for judging. Loser dresses as Princess Leia, in her slave girl costume, in a public hangout (actively seeking one to fit us). Links to related posts are below my update if you want to read even more.
Finished cutting and painting arm and leg pieces out of poster board. Arm pieces were drying so I did not model them. Got the Velcro on the leg pieces and top of the breast and back plate. I decided I did not like the way my initial breast plate vinyl covering turned out so I covered it in a second layer of vinyl tonight and repainted it. Also, you can see in the picture I have black covering from neck to feet.
I still have to add Velcro to the arm pieces, adjust the thigh pieces (they were a little loose), make shoe coverings, figure out something for the codpiece and head, and add all the detailing. I have one day. Thanks to +Kristi Fahlsing for helping me with the arm and leg pieces; it is not a one person job to hold and mark the pieces for cutting! Also, for helping with the Velcro on the chest and back plates; also not a one person job!
More later! π

C3P-O Cramer vs R2D2 Cramer – Return of the Update
Unlike my last update about the Star Wars costume contest between +Scott Cramer (C3P-O) +Keith Cramer (R2D2), which you can find in the list of posts below, I'll try to keep this update informative (mostly because I'm still only on my second beer of the day). This update will be the last from me before the deadline (April 1st, 9:00 PM EST).Contest Summary
The two Cramer brothers have to each make a Star Wars costume which needs to be better than the other's and better than the costumes in the photo below. The loser(s) will be wearing a Slave Leia costume in a public hangout. The Secret Jury
To make everything both easy and fair, all the judging of the costumes will be done by the already (pretty much) established, unbiased secret jury, and not partly through +1 comment voting as previously considered. The voting will take place in secret in the 24+ hours after the deadline for the costumes.Ridicule and Glory
The winner and, more importantly, the loser(s) will be revealed either when all the votes are in or, perhaps more likely, on April 3rd at around 7:00 AM PST (due to time zone issues). The winner will get his glory in the days after the winner announcement and the punishment of the loser(s) (Slave Leia hangout) will take at a still not determined time, hopefully in the days following the announcement of the winner. Schedules have to match up so that both of the Cramer brothers and I (drinking beers with a few of the IRL judges) can take part in the hangout.Work in Progress
Judging from what +Scott Cramer and +Keith Cramer have expressed about their costume creation progress, it seems both of them will get a busy weekend, finishing their costumes. Wish them luck; they're going to need it.That is it for now. You will hear from me again (in relation to the contest) when the winner and loser(s) are announced (or earlier if you're part of the secret jury).

This was awesome. At first I didn't get it, then suddenly my brain kicked in. Thank you brain! First one I got was the second one on the top row. I could not get the first one in the third row or the second one in the fourth row.

+Keith Cramer and I are in a Star Wars costume contest initiated by +Halfdan Reschat. By April 1st, we have to have our costumes ready for judging. So I had already gotten the breast and back plates banged into shape (literally). My initial goal was to get a very thin plastic sheet to cut and secure to the breast and back plates and then paint that. I could not find plastic sheets large enough anywhere; closest I could find were 8.5×11 sheet protectors at the office supply store. Come to find out later I could have gone to the Education Art & Supply Store here in town. Live and learn! So, I ended up with a couple yards of clear vinyl from the fabric store. I cut, stretched, and mounted this on the breast and back plates.
I wanted to get at least the breast plate painted yesterday morning. The spray paint said if the surface was smooth to sand it lightly first. I could not find any sandpaper or steel wool, or even a wire brush. I tried an SOS pad from under the sink. Not effective. I searched everywhere again. No dice. Finally I picked up a shingle that had blown off the roof and used that as my sandpaper. Patience is not one of my virtues. Then, I proceeded to paint. All in all, well, it's gold. I think covering it in plastic would have worked better but I did not have any and the deadline is looming. The vinyl works but it ripples and puckers. Also, I should have covered the metal lath completely with duct tape because the sharp edges poked through the vinyl a bit, especially after sanding it with a roof shingle. Last night, I got the back plate covered and painted (I skipped the sanding part).
I also have completed calf and thigh coverings out of posterboard which I also painted gold. I have a bunch of industrial strength velcro to hold this mess together. I still have to do the butt/codpiece, arms, knees, feet, hands, and details. Also, at present, the head is just a printed image on card stock that originally came from a scan of the back of an old cereal box. No problem. lol In conclusion, this will definitely be the C3PO who has been beat up walking through the Tatooine dessert and dumped into the Jawa Sandcrawler and NOT the C3PO all shiney and getting a medal after the destruction of the Death Star. References thrown in for appropriate Geekiness (like I had to worry).
More later! π
