Hats made of meat

I want a bacon bowler. In a hat like that, I could conquer the world.

Mrs. Chewbacca exclusive interview!

I was going to make a stereotypical French woman joke, but then thought about it and I'm not that guy. So instead, you get a Star Wars joke. I'm totally that guy. 😉

Give a man a bank, and he can rob the world

I've been a little quiet on the political, social front recently; mostly lurking. Loved this quote, though. Especially, the mention of "rob the world" because even though we tend to pay more attention to the pain we feel locally, so many of the problems we have here in the States are so much bigger than our borders.

Thanks +Peter William Lount for the post! #occupy

Psychedelic Animated GIF

Any ideas on how I can hack a bunch of 3" LCD's (or something) with batteries, display this animation, and hang on my Christmas tree?

Not in my thermos!

A coworker just walked into my office. She grabbed the empty thermos off my desk that I use for water, looked at me, and said, "I've got to pee."

What!?!?

She noticed it was empty earlier and was offering to fill it while she was downstairs relieving herself in the proper receptacle. Oops. 😉

The Impostor Syndrome

Do you feel like at any moment people are going to find out you don't know what you are doing? Do you beat yourself up when you fail? I found this video really interesting and worth watching. I will spend more time thinking about it than the few minutes it took to watch. I especially like where she mentions in "flight or fight" that things like innovation and cognitive reasoning go right out the window because they are not imperative and our body shuts them down.

Thanks to +marion chapsal where I originally saw this (but could not share it publicly).

How to pick a yuletide target to help +Secret Santa this season!

How to pick a yuletide target to help +Secret Santa this season!

(1) Check out +Secret Santa and #gplussanta and see what it's all about.
(2) Get involved! Make a wishlist, post, and interact.
(3) Become an elf. (if you are able)

I got stumped on elf-duty. I wasn't sure how to pick someone on the Secret Santa list (goo.gl/sP28t). Geek that I am, I used a random number generator (see the link below). Just input the number of people on the list and click "Generate". If the number points to a person who has already received a gift, then generate another number or just move up/down the list to the next person.

Make sure and keep Secret Santa informed. Elf magic doesn't appear to update Google Docs spreadsheets yet… 😉

An 86-year-old's perspective on history from World Wars to gaming over X-Box…

An 86-year-old's perspective on history from World Wars to gaming over X-Box in the present day.

This was so awesome and well worth a few minutes of your day to read. I think my favorite was at the end (not a spoiler) where he is talking about he and his wife, "We still game, too, and now you can even talk to people on headsets while you play! There are children playing who probably wouldn't believe they got headshot by an 86-year-old woman…" 😉

A link to the Rage comic can be found here:

There are some questions about it's validity:
http://www.reddit.com/r/worstof/comments/m2sm3/rage_comic_from_an_86yearold_the_fakest_fake_that/

All in all, it's a good read, no matter. If someone can verify the truth of it, please comment. Thanks +Rich LaDuca for the original post (limited publication) where I saw this.

When a heavy metal song plays in the forest, are you still cool?

I drove to pick up dinner after work and, in a flashback to my 80?s louder-the-better listening days, I pulled into the restaurant parking lot with windows shaking from hair-metal band Whitesnake’s “Here I Go Again”. The timing was perfect with the music as I pulled into the parking space. It was a good hair day, I was wearing my cool black coat. I had that slightly unshaven devil-may-care look. I got out of the car and walked through the parking lot nodding my head to the tune still echoing in my ears. It was one of those rare “I’m actually really cool right now” moments. Of course, there was nobody around to see it.

I exited the restaurant with my take-out order, still feeling pretty studly. A regular midwest Miami-Vice-Era Don Johnson. This time there were people in the parking lot. Pressure. I still managed to keep the cool look as I walked to my car. I might have even swaggered a little. The cool soundtrack was still playing in my head. I got into the car and, before shutting the door, started it up. My radio, still set at I’m-too-cool-to-follow-your-rules-man volume, immediately started blaring. Oh yeah. Everybody would experience my coolness.

As plastic-pop-diva Cher’s “Do You Believe in Love” washed out over the parking lot, I’m sure the horrified look on my face as my hand shot out to turn off the radio and smashed into my two bags of takeout food showed them all exactly how cool I really was.

"Radio," I thought to myself, "you are not my friend."

Thanks to +Kathy Morlock for her earlier post (http://goo.gl/Mgq30) that reminded me of this story. Happened to me back in 2006. Painfully true. 😉

Secret Santa on Google+ — cute idea

Yes, I said "cute". I'm man enough to stand by it. 😉

So, at first, I thought this was brilliant marketing by Amazon to push out the idea of wishlists and encourage Amazon shopping. After thinking about it, I still think it's brilliant marketing by Amazon to push out the idea of wishlists and encourage Amazon shopping — BUT people seem to be having a really great time with it. So, kudos to all involved! Unless you're a Grinch or Bah-Humbug, then give it a look-see. Yes, I said "look-see". Geez. 😉

eBay acquires Hunch

If you are familiar with Hunch, it's interesting and I'm curious to see how eBay will leverage it further. If you are not familiar with Hunch, you should take a look. In it's beginning I was so-so on it. More recently, they've actually been sending me some recommendations of things to look at (via newsletter) that have been interesting. Coincidence, or are they starting to peg some of my preferences?
