Historical Events as told by the Historical Facebook

Kind of old… but I stumbled across it this morning and it still made me chuckle. I think most of us can remember that old social networking site, Facebook, back before Google+. πŸ˜‰

Looking at Facebook now is like looking at old cheesy photos from the 70's where I wore embarrassing clothes my mom bought me from K-Mart. Good for a laugh now, but never going back!!!

Video about building a TARDIS

I thought 16 mins was going to be a little long, but this was worth the watch. I'm not familiar with the woman hosting the video, but she was quite funny.

Thanks to +Stephanie Van Pelt and +Lamond B for the post.

My Brother is a Jawa

A few days back my brother posted about driving around in his Contour with 1300 pounds of dry ice. He had this picture of himself in his hoody driving the car and it instantly made me think of a Jawa. So… πŸ˜‰

No Car

Missing Ingredients. But I still got Cookies for Breakfast!Baking frenzy late last night. made Unbaked (or No-Bake, as some call them) Oatmeal, Chocolate Chip, and Pumpkin Chocolate Chip cookies. Went to start baking at around 10p and was out of several needed ingredients. No problem. I live close to the grocery. Problem. I loaned my car to +Kristi Fahlsing while hers is in the shop. Oops, bad timing on my part. Called Kristi to see what she was up to and told her I was going to walk to the grocery. She came and picked me up. πŸ˜‰ Upon returning home from the grocery I walked in the door and my phone rang. Kristi called and said, "You forgot your eggs. Come back out." Oh, I left the eggs in the car! Nope. Forgot to BUY them! Back to the grocery. Eggs in the VERY back of the store. Bought eggs. Came back home. Mixed beginning of Unbaked Oatmeal to get ready to finish off while Pumpkin Chocolate Chip in oven. Mixed up Pumpkin Chocolate Chip. Used the last of my Vanilla. Really? Seriously?!? Dig through cabinets and get creative idea! Used Coconut Extract instead. πŸ˜‰ Turned out good — perhaps a little dry, but nice chocolate taste with a hint of coconut. Had planned to make three different types tonight but was unsure what to do with the Chocolate Chip cookies and no vanilla. Was now out of the Coconut Extract so that wasn't even an option. Was wishing I had Almond Extract but I didn't have any. I had a partial tablespoon of Peppermint Extract (why did I keep just that much?!) and Cinnamon Extract. Hm. Why not? Mixed it all up, dough was nice consistency, smelled really nice, and tasted good. Baked 'em. I think I will do this on purpose next time! Nice.+Kari Tedrick A sampling of everything is packaged (quite creatively) and ready to go in payment for my little wager with you on the Mosaic Challenge on your small screen. I'll PM you the tracking. ;-)Along with all the sweet and chocolate goodness, I infused the music on this Spotify playlist into the cookies:http://open.spotify.com/user/scott.cramer/playlist/2cn06P1hEa7TddPmwPp1SPNow, not to be a liar, I have some cookies to eat for breakfast. πŸ˜‰ +Keith Cramer +Dustin Cochran I've got plenty for the office. +Keith Cramer I need a ride.

Unlocked Brother's House = Time for Mischief

So, my brother +Keith Cramer conveniently left his house unlocked and nobody was home. Well, so far they've found the kitchen cabinets I swapped, the forks (all of them) that I took and hid, the cereal bags/boxes that I swapped, the banana in the Christmas tree, and the potato in the pretzels. Guess that only leaves one more thing which I can't mention because he's lurking about here somewhere… πŸ˜‰

Banana in the tree: The link to his post is attached.

Hidden Self Lowering Swimming Pools!

Wow! That is the coolest thing I have seen all year! hehe Okay, so it's not even noon on January 1st, but still, this is awesome! Love the James Bond theme music in the video. Nice. Makes me want to get one and make it look like the top of an inactive volcano…

EDIT: Anyone else thinks this pool likes like Portal? I expect to see the guy jump in and then fall out of the sky or something! πŸ˜‰

Hoping for positive political change. And unicorns

Unfortunately, in our political climate of adversarialism, if he says too much positive, then his political opponents are going to throttle the economy as much as they can just to prove him wrong. If there is any magic to the new year, let's all hope now for POSITIVE change!

Mosaic Challenge & Happy New Year to my Friends and Peers!

Challenge is below… but first, I want to say a few words…

I downloaded a copy of the avatar for every user that I follow and every user that follows me to create this photo mosaic. All of you are Google+ to me so the combination of this image made up of all of you was exactly the embodiment for what I feel. I appreciate the posts, the comments, and every bit of interaction. You normally get out of something what you put into it. Perhaps I have put more effort into the Google+ community than I have anywhere else, but I feel like I have gotten out of it much more than I have put in! Thanks to all of you! Looking forward to so much more in 2012!

The Challenge! Okay, so I couldn't just leave well enough alone with a picture. πŸ˜‰ Download the original full size image if you want to have some fun. If you partied too much for the New Year, you might want to let the hangover subside before doing this!

1) Can you find yourself? I'll admit, I'm a little vain sometimes. I searched for myself. Took me way longer than it should! Please note, I downloaded all the images on 12/30. If you added me after that I apologize that your picture did not make it into the mosaic. Also, if you changed your image, look for your old one!

Most of us share the Geek gene. I have a Doctor Who and a Star Wars challenge hidden within the mosaic.

2) Find the following Star Wars images: Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Princes Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan Kenobi, C3PO, R2D2, Yoda, Jawa, Stormtrooper, Millenium Falcon, Death Star, X-Wing Fighter, and Tie Fighter

3) Find the following Doctor Who images: Each of the 11 Doctors, Tardis, Dalek, Cyberman, and K-9 +Jenn Kirkland, thought of you when I did this one!

There are 3025 images in a 55×55 grid. I padded out the mosaic with about 75 monkeys, pandas, Google+ symbols, Android images, some VW's, a jeep for my bro +Keith Cramer, and a few other oddities, but otherwise it's all you guys!

Special thanks to +Dan Soto and +Carter Gibson for putting me in touch with a lot more users. Also +matthew rappaport for some interesting edumacation whether knowingly or not. πŸ˜‰ +Cliff Roth 2012 New Year's goal to get drawn. +Alyssa Milano just 'cuz. +Kristi Fahlsing for not letting me take any shortcuts making this image. And since this is still the holidays, +Secret Santa team, because that was pretty darn cool.

[EDIT Jan 15th] The answer key, including a new image with the locations overlaid on the original mosaic, can be found at this post: https://plus.google.com/u/0/105986763264590753118/posts/1R935U3EY5K

Computer in your underwear?

When I first read +Susan Stone post, I was worried about my clothes electrocuting me. Now I'm concerned my underwear are going to be smarter than I am.

Visit the link and read the comments. My favorite, "If I overclock a CPU made from this would it burst into flame?" followed by "This one's kind of obviousβ€”yes, of course it would. Oily, greasy cotton that's been wrapped around your sweaty butt all day autoignites at a mere 120 degrees Celsius."

Transistor Made From Cotton Yarn
MrSeb writes "Altering the very fabric of technophilic society, a multinational team of material scientists have created electric circuits and transistors out of cotton fibers (abstract). Two kinds of transistor were created: a field-effect transistor (FET), much like the transistors found in your computer's CPU; and an electrochemical transistor, which is similar but capable of switching at lower voltages, and thus better suited for wearable computers. Cotton itself is an insulator, but by u…

Balloon Fish on Christmas freaked out my daughter

So, the night before Christmas my daughter was looking through some catalog that came in the mail and she saw a picture of the Air Swimmers (basically a giant Mylar balloon with remote control so you can "fly" it through the air). She says, "Those things freak me out!" Of course, I'd already gotten one and hidden it in the upstairs closet the week before. Oops. Christmas morning she came down to the living room to see the image in the picture below and the first thing she did was scream and run back out of the room. Oops again. I moved it out of the way and all was fine. She got used to it by the end of the day and likes it now. I'm extremely glad I didn't buy the shark like +Keith Cramer got.

My Brother's Adventures in Dry Ice — Part Two

Once again, I present my brother +Keith Cramer and can vouch for his inability to get a truck to transport the dry ice. Also, the included picture does not show the appropriate amount of blue tint to his skin color. πŸ˜‰

Visit his original post for the comments; they made me chuckle. One last circle 'ho, but if you have me in your circles and not Keith, you should add him — while he is still on this plane of existence and not frozen into oblivion.

Is there is a Guinness record for the most dry ice loaded into a 1999 Ford Contour? I think I may qualify! 1300 lbs loaded in the trunk, back seat, and passengers seat.

A couple points to remember if you want to top my record.
1. Dress warm, it gets darn cold in a car full of dry ice. I felt like a frozen side of beef by time I made it to the office.
2. Roll down the windows to avoid death from carbon dioxide asphyxiation. FYI, This is kind of important step.
